2012 MacBook Pro Retina Mini Review

2012-06-19 08:38:08

I got the new MacBook Pro, with the high resolution 'Retina' display.

Overall, it is a really good computer.  It's actually faster building an iOS app than my latest-available-model Mac Pro, and I got the cheapest configuration available: the 2.3 Ghz version.

It's also incredibly thin and light for such a big laptop. I've been using a MacBook Air 11" for about a year and a half, so it feels enormous compared to that. But compared to the old 15" MacBooks, it's feather-light. It fits in my small backpack, though barely.  I'll probably need to get a bigger one so the Macbook has some more protection.

The really great thing about this machine, however, is the screen. It is so. Freaking. Gorgeous. Typing this post now, I have this weird impression that printed letters are appearing on paper. It seems fake.

For now, I am going to use this as my main machine, both at my desk and on the go. I've had the thing for less than a day, and the 27" Apple Cinema display looks terrible to me now.
